High Noon an article on Global Warming a Summary
summary by Dan Romney
We as a world are on a collision course with potential catastrophic effects of Global Warming.
If we as the United States do not do something about it en the world as we know is in grave danger or so say the editors of the Amicus Journal,
the official publication of the Natural Resources Defence Council. (NRDC)
In this article the editors outlined evidence of Global Warming and damage that has already occurred as a result of this greenhouse trend.
The NRDC, a national conservation organization, is attempting to convince US policy makers to sign on to the Koyota Treaty which addresses the issue of the emission of greenhouse gasses. Its purposes is to thereby “. reduce emissions on a voluntary basis.
“The Good news is that we are not helpless, We can still curb the greenhouse trend”, the editors say. They challenge the United States, then the world's the biggest polluter, to not only sign on to the Koyota protocols but to take the lead in its implementation, instead of of obstructing its progress.
The editorial makes the following recommendations for US policy makers.
1.Stop piling up carbon dioxide, by shifting to cutting edge technologies for energy efficiency and for renewable energy for the sun, wind and geothermal sources. Prosperity 2.The United States must push to eliminate all of the carbon loopholes. Instead of caving into the powerful fossil fuel lobby. 3.Instead of being intransigent the US should be willing to roll up their sleeves and change their ways.
In summary the recommendations set forth is this editorial are unrealistic because they oversimplify the problem by not taking into the complexities of the US Economy and the tremendous consequences to the economy by taking the panic approach as outlined by this article.
